PINEWOOD RESERVE
Mount Waverley, Victoria
Client: City of Monash
Timing: July 2023
Surface Type: Synthetic Turf
The City of Monash engaged iDwala as the principal consultant to design three new fully enclosed synthetic cricket training lanes at Pinewood Reserve in Mount Waverley. The project aimed to deliver a modern facility that met Cricket Victoria’s standards, featuring high-quality synthetic turf and Australian-made SuperGrasse to ensure a premium playing surface.
However, the design process presented unexpected challenges. Existing native trees at Pinewood Reserve created site constraints, requiring careful positioning of the cricket nets to protect tree roots and preserve the natural environment. Additionally, the layout needed to accommodate Melbourne Water assets, ensuring that the new facility would not interfere with essential infrastructure. The design also included a large retaining wall structure that allowed the creation of space to fit the new cricket practice net within allowable space and between trees, with zero impact on the surrounds.
Through strategic planning and precise design adjustments, iDwala successfully navigated these obstacles, delivering a cricket training facility that seamlessly integrates with the surrounding environment. By balancing compliance requirements with environmental sensitivity, iDwala provided a high-performance sporting space while maintaining the integrity of the reserve. The result is a valuable new addition to Pinewood Reserve, offering a high-quality training ground for the local cricket community and an inviting space for residents to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.
