iDwala was appointed by the City of Greater Geelong to reimagine the cricket net facility at St Leonards Lake Reserve. The existing two-lane nets, oriented east–west, had become increasingly impractical due to sun glare, while the bowler run-up from within the football field created ongoing safety, maintenance and usability issues.

To resolve these constraints and align with the reserve’s recreational zoning, iDwala developed a modern, fully enclosed three-lane synthetic grass facility, reoriented to a north–south axis. The design includes a Pitch Roof to the cricket cage, improves user comfort and visibility, preserves two significant native trees, and maintains existing carpark levels, while avoiding disruption to the adjacent sporting ground and optimising the layout for both cricket and broader community use.

The redevelopment meets Cricket Australia standards and delivers a durable, high-quality training and recreation asset that lifts the amenity of St Leonards Lake Reserve and supports the town’s active coastal lifestyle.

A smart reorientation that improves safety and usability while respecting the landscape and shared public space – proof that strong sport outcomes and sensitive site planning can be delivered seamlessly together.
